A piece of Land
For the summer exhibition BAL! in 2016, Studio Thomas Vailly was commissioned to create a new installation for the Palace Soestdijk, in the Netherlands. The series of plant holders “a piece of land” is inspired by the scenery of the exclusive rooms and the secluded park of the former residency of the Dutch Royal Family.
Playing with the effect of scaling, combining and swopping components, such as architectural elements and nature, the series includes four different shapes – wall, stand, arch and tray. The objects act as a sphere within a sphere: a secret bubble, a very visible showcase or a protected atmosphere.Bended metal grids are combined with standard terracotta pots. Playing with the individual green of every plant these “natural reservoirs” are available in two different colours - light green and traffic blue.
